Cooperative Education and Practicum

"Professional opportunities in public history have grown dramatically over the last few decades, and several of our alumni are now pursuing careers in applied fields ranging from museum work to archive management.  Our undergraduate and graduate programs alike offer opportunities to gain professional experience in these fields while pursuing your degree.

In recent years, EKU students have earned college credit via work in a variety of professional settings including:

Fort Boonesborough State Park (Richmond) http://parks.ky.gov/findparks/recparks/fb/
State Archives of Kentucky (Frankfort) http://www.kdla.ky.gov/archival.htm
Irvine McDowell House (Danville) http://www.mcdowellhouse.com/descendants.html
Whitehall State Historic Site (Richmond) http://parks.ky.gov/findparks/histparks/wh/
EKU Archives (Richmond) http://www.library.eku.edu/collections/sca/

For our undergraduates, college credit for applied professional experiences in history are arranged through the EKU Cooperative Education office, with Dr. David Coleman serving as our departmental coordinator for Cooperative Education.  To inquire about or arrange for credit via HIS 349 (Cooperative Education: History), please see Dr. Coleman in Keith 325 or email him at david.coleman@eku.edu.

For our graduate students, credit for applied professional experiences is earned via HIS 838: History Practicum.  Please direct inquiries to our Graduate Program Coordinator, Dr. Todd Hartch in Keith 303 or email him at todd.hartch@eku.edu.
