The Department of History at Eastern Kentucky University is an active community of scholar/teachers and learners engaged in a common pursuit of historical understanding. Our faculty specialize in fields stretching around the globe and across the vast chronological sweep of history. We take great pride in the achievements of our faculty and students alike. As highly active researchers in their fields, our faculty have published more than a dozen major books and scores of journal articles that have made our department an emerging nationally respected center for historical scholarship. Our professors bring the excitement of their cutting-edge research to the classroom, where our small class sizes ensure active faculty-student interaction. We offer three degree-programs: B.A. in History, B.A. in History/Teaching, and M.A. in History. Our graduates have gone on to careers in a broad variety of fields ranging from museum work and public history to law, business, and teaching. We have hundreds of successful alumni teaching in secondary schools across the commonwealth of Kentucky and all around the nation, as well as some who have gone on to earn Ph.Ds and become college and university faculty themselves. Though we are a large, public, comprehensive university, we at Eastern have long been proud of our tradition of delivering high-quality instruction in a personal manner that is responsive to the needs and aspirations of each of our students. Please explore our website, and feel free to e-mail, call, or drop by our offices on the top floor of the Keith Building if you have questions about our department or our programs.
